Kiosk in the Woods

Finnish Wood Architecture

While studying in Finland I have learned about the cultural importance of Wood Architecture and I got tasked to design my own wood project, a small kiosk for a local public park in Vuores, in the outskirts of Tampere, Finland.

Both sides are accessible through the axial path, running through the structure.

Halves of a nutshell.

The building is almost structurally symmetrical. One half encloses the kiosk and a small storage area, while the other, slightly smaller half, serves as an exterior shelter and esplanade, and provides a publicly accessible restroom.

Crossing a crossroad

The kiosk is discrete in its shape, but the positioning is such that the visitors of the park could hardly miss it. It consists of a small detour, an offset to the busiest crossroad in the area.

Two huts

The two structures provide a semi-private space for barbecues and other activities, not too close and not too far from the kiosk.
